Plan #1

As the term goes on I am trying to figure out what the final project will turn out to be. Juggling between 2 ideas. A Silhouette of western inspiration or a huge floral painting on a canvas. I really want to do something with paint because that is the medium that I like the most.

Reflection

The first week is going well. I am doing small projects to have a final idea of what to do. So far I have come up with one idea for a main project. However I am scared that it is going to look different on the canvas then it would in my head. My next steps are to try my idea on a smaller scale and see what it comes out to look like and if not I will go back to square one and "scratch" like Twyla Tharp.

The creative habit

Scratching is an idiosyncrasy of Ms. Thrarp. She uses scratching by going through everything she has to find inspiration for a new piece. Out of all her methods I can relate most to wrong materials and perfectionism at the start. Sometimes I have a great idea in my mind of everything and when I go to do it on any canvas it comes out differently then what I pictured perfectly in my head.
"Dance" in an art studio would be like having everything flow. Do not keep earasing and starting over. Just keep going with it because it could turn into something really beautiful.

Studio Visits

Everyone has their own expression of art so each studio is different. However many of them are similar. In a lot of the studios I notice it is very light. Everything is well lit. The artists have their works on the wall and on the floor. There are always materials either on the desk that they are working on or through out the studio. You can find everything from canvases to paint to tape. Each artist had one desk that they make all their work on. Usually the materials that they will use for that day are on the table and there is always more then one piece of art work on the table.

Inside the Painters Studio

I think that the workspaces resemble the artists work. When an artist studio is clean and organized such as Brian Bishops the work comes out much more clean, polished and modern. Where as a cluttered studio such as Gelsy Verna come much more to life. There is colors, splashes and fun. I think with a more cluttered studio the more fun the art comes out to be. There is a lot more to work with when you have a lot of materials around you.
I related most to Mark Bradley. He had a lot of material around him to work with. Although it was a little more organized then I would like it. He still had everything he would need around him. He even made art out of his scrap pieces of tape which is something I would like to do in Senior Studio.

Hannah Senior Studio

Today in class we used our creative side to touch on important artistic points that we have had both in and outside of class. Such as influences, mediums best work of art ect. I started reading all the questions to start before doing my work. Then I decided to create each one with a picture with the word mom in the center because she is how I got into art. Everything was in color rather then with pencil because I like working in color mainly. It was really interesting to see what I came up with on the spot.
